Nakoa Dudoit Professor Joan Robinson Eng 102 20 Feb. 2015 The Foundation America Was Built On In Amy Chua’s essay, â€Å"The Right Road to America† she argues the point that immigration is a great value of this country and that America was built from immigrants. One thing differs from Chua’s essay than from others because she not only gives highly credible facts on how immigrants have helped our country, but she also provides ways to improve the issues of immigration into America. Amy Chua is a highly credible professor at Yale and states throughout her essay that immigrants who possess American values deserve to be here in America and those who don’t should leave. America had always been a country that accepted immigration and allowed all†¦show more content†¦If we truly believe in what we preach then we absolutely cannot rid of immigration from this country when it states in our declaration of independence, â€Å"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certa in unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness†(Jefferson). By banning immigration we possibly have taken away all three of their unalienable Rights. Chua states that our unique success in forging an ethnically and religiously neutral national identity, uniting individuals of all backgrounds is Americas glue that has held us together for so long. We must continue to encourage immigration and allow all to have the opportunity to fulfil their dreams. America should also support immigration because people neglect the indispensable role that immigrants have played in building American wealth and power. In the 19th century, the United States would never have become an industrial and agricultural powerhouse without the millions of poor Irish, Polish, Italian and other newcomers who mined coal, laid rail and milled steel(Chua). Martin Luther King Jr. fought for equality in his popular speech, â€Å"I Have a Dream†. We forget the fac t that back in the day we built our foundation from slavery.
